Warning About Putting Down Comforters in Infant's Bed

Posted

To avoid risk of suffocation, do not allow babies or small children to sleep with any comforter or featherbed. This will also help to prevent overheating, which has been linked to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Down products such as comforters and pillows should be kept out of infants' cribs. Tears in the fabric can allow down to escape, which if inhaled by the infant could block the air passages, leading to suffocation or choking. The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly encourages putting infants to sleep on their backs.

Remember to throw way the plastic bag used to protect your pillow, comforter or featherbed during shipping. Babies or small children who play with plastic bags are in danger of suffocation.
